A nice, clean single speed with a funky camo splatter paint finish…what more is there to say? Get on and ride, darnit.
When you pull to the start line, why not get noticed? Jeff requested a bike that was a bit more colorful than his previous rides, so I pulled out all the stops. A custom steel blend of tubing, no non-sense geometry, and a painted to match White Brothers fork all adds up to a fast, stable race sled that took Jeff to the top of the regions results.
Literally finished today is this stainless daily adventure bike for Trevor. It’s a tough bike made to ride all year round. Never letting a little bit of “weather” stop the December commutes, or from pouring on the base-miles in January. Featuring KVA MS2 stainless tubing, custom stainless rack, fenders, disc brakes, Wound-up carbon fork, FSA Metropolis bars and Brooks bits.
A sweet little number in grunge green and cream, this Rohloff equipped steel bike features internal cable routing, custom EBB, modular dropouts, one piece bar and stem, and our own box crown fork. It’s as much fun to look at as it is to ride.
A super clean travel bike for a performance enthusiast…this custom steel sled features SS couplers, quick disconnect cable mounts, and a Rohloff hub for ease of travel. A beautifully rich red/orange candy fade finish compliments the frame and bar. This baby will see a lot of action abroad :)
It’s a 29′er, steel, and geared. This bike is going places. First off riding the gnarly trails of Vancouver Island, BC, next the sick trails of Australia.
A fun single speed that utilizes the Gates Belt drive products and an SS coupler on the chain stay to pass the belt. Designed around 650b wheels for quick agile movement and a bit more roll over than their smaller cousin, this build utilizes a White Brothers fork for suspension duties. The customer has since upgraded to a anodized blue Rohloff drivetrain, courtesy of Cycle Monkey. A fun build and a really enjoyable paint job to complete.
I love the benefits of a Rohloff drive train…clean, organized, efficient, and it requires the most minimal maintenance. This 29er offers a little bit of pizazz to go along with it as well. Built for travel, this bike is equipped with Paragon’s sliders for chain tension duties, S&S couplers for ease of packing, and custom machined plates that maintain clean lines and allow the cables to be freed quickly. Throw in the custom hand bent stays, custom unicrown fork, painted to match Luv Handle, specially cut and machined XTR crank, and a bright, fun paint job, and this bike is ready to take to the dirt wherever your plane lands.
Designed for a customer who can’t decide between skinny tires and knobbies for cruising the country roads and double track in his area, this geared bicycle allows for both. Built with a custom selection of steel tubing, a suspension corrected rigid front fork, and dressed in three layers of candy orange that give some visual depth, this 2×9 Sram equipped machine is sure to provide stable performance despite the surface he cruises on.
Whether you want to ride the dirt tracks of the Great Dividing Range on a day long epic or test yourself in the arena of a cyclocross race, the Turanti will fill your needs.
It is made from butted titanium tubing with 6/4 titanium fittings. Top end parts are used in the build – SRAM Red groupset, Avid Shorty Ultimate brakes, Enve rims, bars, stem and post.
A full custom bicycle…styled after a 1940′s cruiser frame, this piece has one off period styled dropouts, a custom suspension corrected triple crown fork, Luv handles, Hotrods and a sweet classic red and white paint job to finish it off. Built as a 2×6 with a custom machined cassette fit on a King single speed wheelset, this build can quickly move from geared to single speed at a riders whim. A fun and challenging build, that made the process very enjoyable. This is why I love my job
A build for one of my sponsored racers, this build features a steel frame with custom radiused and ovalized top top tube, s-bend stays, and tight geometry to allow a neutral steering base for nimble moves between tight tree lined corners. Built with 100mm suspension and a clean 2×10 drivetrain, this machine is simple and meant to go fast. Throw in a titanium Disco stick seatpost and ti Luv Handles for comfort and light weight, King wheels on Crest rims, and this rig is ready to hit the race course. A subtle white with gold pearl finish keeps the build under the radar on the start line. As a sponsored build, I finished it up at a little past midnight, just 8 hours before the race, so the quality of the pics is a mix of moonlight and weariness
A straight up steel frame with swinger dropouts, custom titanium unicrown fork, titanium Luv Handle, painted to match Hot Rods, titanium Disco Stick seat post, and rolling on super sweet Phil/Arch wheels. Built to be stiff in the low end, but with compliant components to take the edge off of the rigid chassis. Finished up with a tribute color of Team Lavendar, a pale lavendar with a red pearl overcoat. One of my favorite builds, clean and efficient.
A steel and Hibiscus flowered frame built to handle all the dirt roads you can travel down. This Rohloff equipped bike is designed for belt or chain drive utilizing a pass through gate in the seatstay…no spreading or bending the frame members to allow a belt to pass. Decked out with dirt drops, leather tape, and custom Woody fenders, handmade Hot Rod cranks, custom unicrown fork, and custom high rise stem, she’s built to look as good as it rides. Let’s go explore!
A sweet retro styled sled for shreading the single track, this porceline green and cream beauty sports a custom ti unicrown fork, ti luv handle, and airbrushed little girlies for your viewing pleasure.
This special build was designed to provide modern performance with a vintage styling of the 40′s. The customer wanted the finish to look like it was just pulled from a barn after years of being stored away. A blend of custom steel tubing, swinger dropouts, and designed around a custom suspension corrected titanium unicrown fork and ti Luv handle, this cockpit provides a more upright position to allow for an open, unrestricted torso for ease of breathing and power when single speeding. A fun bike with a lot of character.
See how the finish came together here on the blog…
Let me introduce to you the Luv Handle…built of 4130 aircraft steel or 3/2.5 Haynes Titanium. The bar sports a gentle 4 degree rise and a 21.5 degree back sweep, meeting the natural anatomic position of your wrist and hands to allow for reduced stress on the supportive structures resulting in all day comfort and control. The design allows you to use your current stem and the grip section is long enough to mate with any combination of shifters and brake levers…just slide them on and hit the dirt.

An unusual bike for a unique customer, this bike mixes old school geometry with an infallible drive train for a performance machine. Inclusive of a one piece Luv handle bar/stem combo, custom fork, custom Hot Rod cranks, Ti seat post, internal cable routing, and an off the chart custom paint, this bike epitomizes a holistic design philosophy.
Designed as a 26″ wheeled trail bike, versatility is the focus here; built with a custom EBB, modular dropouts and internal cable routing, this machine can accommodate a Rohloff drive, standard gears, or run simply as a single speed. Add a splash of color to the mix and you are set for wherever your heart leads.
This sweet machine is designed for the ultimate performace travel bike…SS couplers to break down quickly for transport, SRAM Red for flawless operation, and layers of candy colors over a black base that will explode with color as you crest the mountain top into the sun. Fast a fun, she’s a looker too
The request did not seem too difficult…create a custom machine made out of titanium and garbed in the colors of Texas Christian University for an ardent cyclist, alumni, and fan of the Horned Frogs. What transpired was one of my most enjoyable journeys of blending both fabrication, paint, and finish techniques to create a one of a kind tribute that performs as well as it looks. This single speed 29′er is headed for Dirt Rag Mag to be tested and reviewed during the gnarly winter months. Hope they like it! Featuring Industry Nine wheels, Chris King headset, Paragon rocker dropouts, 2012 Fox F29 RLC 120mm tapered fork, Schwalbe Nobby Nic’s, and FSA bits.
HOW TO MAKE A BLACKBERRY SMOOTHIE
Take your Naked Light Adventure bicycle along a picturesque gravel road in late August in search of plump ripe blackberries. Collect the blackberries in your recycled yogurt container. Eat extras as required for energy. Stop by your local grocer. Grab some plain yogurt, milk, and honey (local is best). If you’ve forgotten to freeze some bananas ahead of time, you might also want to pick up some ice-cream. Return home at a vigorous pace to work up a good sweaty hunger, clicking through your crisp new drive-train as necessary. Come to a graceful and controlled, shudder-less stop with your new TRP mini-V brakes. Combine ingredients in blender until smoothie and bike are the same colour. Yummy goodness.
The Alchemy custom carbon road is the axe for all occasions. Given the growing popularity of mass production aero road race bikes and their relatively high MSRP, Alchemy figured it was time to enter the fray with a custom option. What’s different from the overseas whips? The Alchemy Aero Road is stronger, considerably lighter and most importantly, fully customizable. Alchemy’s logic? Why put all of that money into an aero frame for the aero advantage if it wasn’t made to fit you?
Alchemy builds the 100% American made frame in Austin, TX using their unique and extremely tough tube to tube joining technique. The top shelf NACA inspired airfoil tubes are laid up by Enve Composites on Alchemy molds. All frames feature an externally tapered head tube option, ultra light PF 30 bottom bracket shell option, full Di2 internal routing compatibility and 2 color paint. Weight? As little as 950 grams for some sizes.
A TIG welded titanium Naked road adventure completed with Dura-ace groupo, Rolf wheelset and Enve 2.0 carbon fork. Red just peeks out from the Chris King headset, Eriksen post and tiny paint details.
Dear Mr. Nic,
Here’s a shiny new 29′er for you complete with 1 gear, two brakes and a bit of boingy action. Now, go kick some ass!
Happy riding,
Team Naked (see attached picture)
Bubblegum pink it is. This lugged road adventure frame practically screams April showers and May flowers. Also featuring custom fork and stem. The force is strong in this one.
Just add mud. In the words of it’s rider ” it felt lighter than I predicted, it sucked up bumps better than my wildest predictions, and was stiffer under power than I thought materially possible. The latest concern is keeping it clean, and not from dirt, but from the various drool, and other fluids, that assault it daily when I show it to other riders. XXX, at North Park, literally almost fell over. His eyes bugged out. He dropped what he was doing mid-conversation with a customer and loped over to it like a salivating zombie. I’m terrified as to what will happen when XXXXX sees it”.
She looks fast no? Kyle is commuting on this Daily Adventure bicycle featuring Gates Carbon Belt Drive and Shimano Alfine internal hub system, Velo Orange front and rear racks attached to the fenders and painted to match (complete with racing stripe), custom Naked fork for disc brake.
Nothing like seeing a loved bike. This one has been through hell and back again. Most recently a 12 hour endurance race, 27 laps, over 175km on the gnarly, rooty, rocky trails of Cumberland, British Columbia. This steel single speed steed features Naked eccentric dropouts and Industry Nine Wheels. Used and abused. What a RIDE!
Meet Pete’s bike. A Baby Ganoush with a classic eggplant finish, custom front and rear stainless racks, custom fork, Walnut Studio sew-up leather grips, Velocity burlwood rims, White Industry accents, an A-hole, a B-hole and Cuuuurvy tubes.
Our 21 pound Dragonfly tandem is a game changer. Our 6.5 pound full-carbon tandem frame is not weight restricted and has been enjoyed and tested by the world’s strongest racers and touring cyclists alike. Leveraging carbon components including our BarStem and custom carbon cranks optimized for single side drive (featuring a Gates Carbon Belt) as well as SRAM Red/XX wide-range 2 x 10 gearing, we’ve a tandem platform ready for any adventure. In addition to their lightweight, our tandems are durable and very comfortable.
Our lightest and most technically advanced frame. The Dragonfly tube set was designed to build the lightest possible single and tandem bicycle frames without sacrificing stiffness, durability and ride quality. Please read this review of our Dragonfly published in the June 2011 issue of Road Bike Action. We use high modulus carbon fiber (66msi) in all the tubes as well as the lug areas. Previously, a frame built with all high modulus fiber would be too brittle. We incorporated Boron fiber into the three main tubes to add some toughness and compressive stiffness. Boron is an attractive reinforcement because the resulting composite combines superior tensile, compressive and flexural strengths, high modulus, and low density in one system. Combined with the super high tensile stiffness of the carbon, the result is a frame material with the highest stiffness-to-weight ratio on the market.
The use of boron fiber has come of age with its use in our high performance bicycle frames. Bicycle weights have dropped from 18 pounds back in the 1980s to 14 pounds or less in 2010. Much of this weight savings comes with the use of carbon fiber composites. As bicycle companies compete in the arms race to make even lighter, stiffer bikes, safety and durability are pushed to the limit. High modulus (55 Msi and greater) carbon fiber is being used to make stiff yet thin walled tubing. These tubes can be vulnerable to damage from a variety of real world sources. When slightly damaged from a pebble thrown up by a passing car, or an unfortunate event during a group ride or race, a thin walled tube can rapidly degrade to an unsafe condition. Our very popular Calfee Carbon Repair business is evidence of this common failure. Using boron filaments in the tube laminate mitigates this problem by significantly enhancing the tubes structural performance.

It’s not everyday that we get to combine the stunning West Coast First Nations artwork of Jai Kealy from Vancouver Island with the functionality of the bicycle. The end result was truly spectacular.
