Naked Bicycles
We've been making 100% fully custom bikes since 1998 on Quadra Island, BC, Canada. They are hand-designed, hand-built and hand-painted; one by one, with love, logic and elbow grease.   What we love about bicycles, I think is the same thing that all kids love about riding bikes - the freedom and the ease of it.  Freedom in thought and freedom in movement.  To us, it is the closest thing to flying. And that is a great feeling.   In this modern world of one-size-fits-all cookie cutter products, there is a real yearning for a return to personalized products.   With a few simple tools a bicycle can be created and take you around the velodrome in just seconds or around the world at just the right speed.  No type of bike is better than another, they all have their place. The right bike is the one that is right for you.   This year we are embarking on an unusual project.  We are RIDING our show bikes from N. California to NAHBS in Sacramento.  We really want to make a meal out of the prep and journey of getting to NAHBS.   In the days to come, we’ll be documenting about the bike designs and build, choice of trip equipment and clothing, the trip itself, the people we meet, the places we stay and finishing off on the last day of NAHBS.  We hope to show the amount of work and passion that goes into handbuilt bicycles, not simply the product.   Join us for the journey at http://roadtonahbs.timetogetnaked.com/   The truth is, our bikes are built for very real and grand adventures.  We name our bikes “adventure” bikes because that is exactly how our customers use them.   And so begins our own adventure.  Hope you’ll tag along.     – Sam and Andrea
Naked Bicycles – Our daughter makes her first bike!!:

Sophie, our super stellar daughter,  helped with the design,  mitering and filing tubes,  braze-ons, welding (well, actually watched that part), prepping for paint, and building up the bike.   That is pretty damn awesome for a 14 year old!! Way to go Sophie, we are super proud of you! Now go ride your bike.

Naked Stainless Daily Adventure:

Literally finished today is this stainless daily adventure bike for Trevor.  It’s a tough bike made to ride all year round. Never letting a little bit of “weather” stop the December commutes, or from pouring on the base-miles in January. Featuring KVA MS2 stainless tubing,  custom stainless rack, fenders, disc brakes, Wound-up carbon fork,  FSA Metropolis bars and Brooks bits.

It’s a Rack Montage – Naked Bikes:

Sometimes racks need to be custom too.  Here’s a mishmash of racks we’ve made: some are stainless, some are small, some are big, some can come apart, and some are a part of the frame.  All of them carry things.

Naked Just the Basics Steel 29′er Geared:

It’s a 29′er, steel, and geared. This bike is going places. First off  riding the gnarly trails of Vancouver Island, BC, next the sick trails of Australia.

Naked Light Adventure Blackberry Smoothie:

HOW TO MAKE A BLACKBERRY SMOOTHIE

Take your Naked Light Adventure bicycle along a picturesque gravel road in late August in search of plump ripe blackberries.  Collect the blackberries in your recycled yogurt container.  Eat extras as required for energy.  Stop by your local grocer. Grab some plain yogurt, milk, and honey (local is best).  If you’ve forgotten to freeze some bananas ahead of time, you might also want to pick up some ice-cream.  Return home at a vigorous pace to work up a good sweaty hunger, clicking through your crisp new drive-train as necessary.  Come to a graceful and controlled, shudder-less stop with your new TRP mini-V brakes.  Combine ingredients in blender until smoothie and bike are the same colour.  Yummy goodness.

Naked Ti Road Adventure:

A TIG welded titanium Naked road adventure completed with  Dura-ace groupo,  Rolf wheelset and Enve 2.0 carbon fork.  Red just peeks out from the Chris King headset, Eriksen post and tiny paint details.

Nic’s Naked Team Issue 29′er SS:

Dear Mr. Nic,

Here’s a shiny new 29′er for you complete with 1 gear, two brakes and a bit of boingy action. Now, go kick some ass! :)

Happy riding,
Team Naked (see attached picture)

Naked Bubblegum Jedi Road Adventure:

Bubblegum pink it is. This lugged road adventure frame practically screams April showers and May flowers.  Also featuring custom fork and stem.  The force is strong in this one.

Naked Ti Psycho-X:

Just add mud.  In the words of it’s rider ” it felt lighter than I predicted, it sucked up bumps better than my wildest predictions, and was stiffer under power than I thought materially possible. The latest concern is keeping it clean, and not from dirt, but from the various drool, and other fluids, that assault it daily when I show it to other riders. XXX, at North Park, literally almost fell over. His eyes bugged out. He dropped what he was doing mid-conversation with a customer and loped over to it like a salivating zombie. I’m terrified as to what will happen when XXXXX sees it”.

Naked Daily Adventure with Belt Drive:

She looks fast no?  Kyle is commuting on this Daily Adventure bicycle featuring Gates Carbon Belt Drive and Shimano Alfine internal hub system, Velo Orange front and rear racks attached to the fenders and painted to match (complete with racing stripe), custom Naked fork for disc brake.

Naked Single Speed 29′er:

Nothing like seeing a loved bike.  This one has been through hell and back again.  Most recently a 12 hour endurance race, 27 laps, over 175km on the gnarly, rooty, rocky trails of Cumberland, British Columbia.  This steel single speed steed features Naked eccentric dropouts and Industry Nine Wheels. Used and abused. What a RIDE!

Naked Baby Ganoush:

Meet Pete’s bike.  A Baby Ganoush with a classic eggplant finish, custom front and rear stainless racks, custom fork, Walnut Studio sew-up leather grips, Velocity burlwood rims, White Industry accents, an A-hole, a B-hole and Cuuuurvy tubes.

West Coast Art and a bike:

It’s not everyday that we get to combine the stunning West Coast First Nations artwork of Jai Kealy from Vancouver Island with the functionality of the bicycle.  The end result was truly spectacular.
